  1. Synthetic chemical perfumes used in fabric softener may irritate skin, especially for children.

  2. Synthetic chemical perfumes are not recommended for those with eczema, asthma, allergies, sensitivities, babies, young children, pets.

  3. Reduces the absorbency of towels.

  4. Not recommended at all for certain types of textiles such as high-performance sports gear, linen, wool and silk. Fabric softeners coat the fibres and detrimentally affect moisture wicking ability. The coating also builds up over time making it harder for water and laundry liquid/powder to permeate the fabric so, odours and stains are more difficult to get out and become sealed in.

  5. May make fabrics less flame retardant, which is why it’s particularly not recommended for children’s sleepwear.

  6. Many brands of fabric softener are petroleum-based and may also contain animal fat, they can clog up your washing machine, especially if it's a front-loader, and pipes.

  7. May also encourage the growth of mould in your machine.

  8. Usually contain petroleum-based chemicals, which are not easily biodegradable and can be harmful to aquatic life.
